My mother’s people
Across the deep blue sea
The place I long to be
To see my family.
See I have bloods
Running through my veins so strong
My baby boy so young
Will know where he comes from.
My father’s people
Convicts of another land
Can never understand
Exactly where I stand.
They love me and my son
But I can never forget
How it was with regret
That two my two parents met.
My mother’s people
From the islands far away
Didn’t want a man from astray
To take their black princess away.
My father’s people
Did look into his eyes
And with complete despise
At his choice in love and wife.
On occasion I don’t think of it
But it festers deep inside
Colour made my family so blind
But my parent’s love did defy.
My mother and my father
When I see them now, so in love
I thank their belief in love and the above
Or I would never have been thought of.
My people, My history
Do tell a sad tale
No obstacle of any scale
Can prevent a true love to prevail.
