She was a healthy girl,
Always laughing and having fun.
Spent all her time playing sports,
Always out in the sun.

There was a guy that she liked,
But she was always too afraid.
Secretly liked him for three years,
Still keeping her feelings in the shade.

When she turned sixteen,
She finally decided to spill.
But she started showing symptoms,
Of a disease that can kill.

She was diagnosed with leukemia,
And she felt her whole world fall.
From then on she stopped living her life,
As far as she could recall.

She never told him how she felt,
Because it would hurt if he loved her, too.
If he felt the same for her,
Then she wouldn't know what to do.

She acted like nothing was wrong,
And she stopped being the happy girl she was.
And when he asked her why she was distant,
She simply said, "Just 'cause."

But he wouldn't accept it as an answer.
He kept bugging her about it.
Her love for him started getting bigger,
And it just wouldn't fit.

"BECAUSE I LOVE YOU, OKAY?"
She finally let it out.
He just looked at her in shock,
"So that was all it was about?"

She stood there trembling,
And she started to cry.
She didn't tell him the rest of it,
The part that she was going to die.

He held her close to him,
And whispered for her to calm down.
He whispered those four words,
That made her smile instead of frown.

"I love you, too,"
And her world was complete.
That was all it took,
And she'd been swept off her feet.

Once they started going out,
She began to forget.
And soon, that would be something,
That she'd dearly regret.

She started to lose weight,
And she began to grow weak.
Her symptoms came back,
And she'd be too tired to speak.

He wanted to know what was wrong,
And her mother finally broke down and told.
"She has leukemia,"
And the truth began to unfold.

She landed into the hospital,
And the worse her leukemia was,
The less they could speak.
He learned about what leukemia does.

He would stay there by her side,
All day and all night.
No matter how awful she looked,
He still thought she was a beautiful sight.

The moments she was awake,
Were the moments he treasured most.
Until the leukemia decided,
To destroy all hope for its host.

All her hair had fallen out now,
And it felt like a death sentence.
She was so thin, he could break her,
And the air around became dense.

She was so weak,
But she seemed a little better now.
He was always confused,
At the smile she kept on her face somehow.

Then her hope was gone,
When she couldn't even see.
She said his name, shaking,
And he grabbed her hand gently.

He stayed with her more,
Whispering, "It's okay. I'm here."
He wouldn't let go of her,
And was always there.

She made it to her 18th birthday,
And he gave her a couple's ring.
She smiled so wide,
Over such the cheap, little thing.

It made her happy,
To know that he loved her so much.
She loved knowing,
That he was within range to touch.

Until one day,
She couldn't fight anymore.
And she passed on quickly,
Reaching out for him like before.

She died in his arms,
He was screaming her name.
He kept crying, unable to stop.
He hated life's game.

But he was glad that they'd met,
Known each other since they were seven.
Now she'd passed on in his arms,
Happily watching him from heaven.

I don't know if someone with leukemia can actually not be able to see at one point, but I read it in a novel once so I decided to add it in. I don't know much about leukemia, but one of my home boys died from it. I wasn't able to be with him, since he lived in another state, but all I know is that he passed from it. The poem is dedicated to him. Though it's about a girl with leukemia, does it matter? I love you, Eugene.
